New Life
Some of the treetops look singed, brown leaves appear alongside green. The remaining leave look heavy, hung low after a long hot summer. I’m amazed at the power of acorns, that they can grow into a tree that can live hundreds of years. The low angle of sunlight creates swirling golden patterns across the barks of the oak trees lining the pathway up to the lake. Up at the Rose Garden, a crow sifts through shrubbery, two robins sing as they dart in and out of the bushes by the entrance.
My eyes are drawn to a patch of fresh green foliage spotlighted by sunlight. As I get nearer I realise the fresh green foliage are new leaves emerging from a tree trunk that had fallen earlier in the year during high winds. These leaves had the freshness of spring about them, new life emerging from the nourishment of the tree.
