Riverside
The rowing club has already finished their early morning practice on the river. A mini bus is revving in the carpark waiting to transport the roweres back into the city. Just before the bridge over to Thwaite Mills there is a broken fence, upturned and thrown into the hedgerow. A couple of joggers pass by dressed in pink lyrcra vests and leggings, smartphones strapped to their arms. I spot a nesting box placed in the trees on the river's edge. A cormorant swoops low over the water, moving North towards The Leeds Dock. Further along the path a cormorant is in the water. The cormorant resembles a periscope as it turns its head, looking intently for fish. Flash of kingisher blue hovers by the river bank then turns upstream. As the kingisher turns I see its coppery chest. Someone has sprayed grafitti on the designer wooden seating by the new development of riverside houses and apartments.
