Spring landscape

I smell the morning air, fresh and my feet crunch on frosty grass. A blackbird sings on the Middleton Ring Road and pigeons coo. I really listen to blackbird paying attention to different melodies each time it sings. Three smoking chimneys are visible on a distant industrial estate at Cross Green. As I walk down the Ring Road, vans with advertising for scaffolding, heating and plastering speed past, driven by builders in high visibility jackets. I walk up Middleton Road towards the Windmill Cafe. A telegraph pole on Wiindmill Road has wires strung like a carousel. A man scrapes ice from his windshield, as his car belches out fumes. A woman with sunglasses on her head, white ear buds and a pink cowl neck jumper, smiles as she walks past me.
