Peacock butterflies
A peacock butterfly flutters across the pasture where the horses graze, framed by the Stourton Park and Ride site. A discarded lottery ticket stewn on the pavement on Hopes Farm Road, a token of a big win that didn't happen. Motorway noise is a continual, monotonous hum, like tinnitus. A car starts and accelerates down the street. Cotton ball clouds fill a pale blue sky. I smell freshly mowed grass. A magpie flies from the ground into a silver birch. Two small white feathers fall gracefully to the ground. I walk across the motorway bridge, I spot a 'Globetrotter' articulated lorry on the M62 heading east. On the Leeds and Wakefield road, a farmer's field nestles alongside an electricity sub-station which is framed by CCTV and silver satellite discs. An unmarked police car suddently puts on a siren.
